Our Story
After 27+ years in medicine, opening Atlas Valley Dermatology is more than a career move — it is a calling. God placed this vision on my heart to create a dermatology practice rooted in compassion, integrity, and genuine care for the people of our Valley. This community has shaped my life, supported my family, and trusted me with their health for decades. Serving here is both an honor and a responsibility I do not take lightly.
I believe healthcare should feel personal and consistent. You deserve a provider who listens, who remembers your story, and who walks alongside you — not just for one visit, but for years to come.
Atlas Valley Dermatology was built on faith, experience, and a deep love for this community. Our mission is simple: to care for you with excellence, kindness, and unwavering commitment.
Because this isn’t just where we work — it’s home. And caring for our community is not just our profession, it’s our purpose.

Meet the Provider
April Matthews, FNP-C, DCNP
Double Board-Certified in Family Medicine and Dermatology
With more than 27 years of medical experience, I have dedicated my career to caring for patients across every stage of life. Throughout those years, one truth has remained constant: medicine is most powerful when it is personal.
As a long-standing member of this community, opening Atlas Valley Dermatology is both a professional milestone and a deeply personal calling. This Valley is home. My family is here, my roots are here, and I am committed to providing consistent, high-quality dermatologic care to the people who live and work alongside me every day.
As a double board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Dermatology Certified Nurse Practitioner, my approach combines evidence-based medicine with compassionate listening and individualized treatment plans. I believe patients deserve a provider who values their trust, understands their goals, and remains a steady presence throughout their healthcare journey.
Atlas Valley Dermatology was built on faith, integrity, and a genuine desire to serve this community with excellence. It is truly an honor to care for you and your family.
Medical Director
Dr. Christopher Villard has served the Visalia community in dermatology for more than 48 years. While now retired from active patient care, Dr. Villard continues to support Atlas Valley Dermatology in the role of Medical Director and Clinical Consultant. He will not be seeing patients or providing in-office care, but remains available for protocol oversight, quality assurance, and consultation on complex dermatologic cases in collaboration with April Matthews, FNP-C, DCNP. His decades of experience and commitment to high standards of patient care continue to be a valued resource for the practice.
